Samsung’s NC10-11PBK Special Edition 10.2-inch netbook is now available in the US.

The NC10-11PBK, offered by Amazon, has a battery life of “up to 9.4 hours”. That’s an increase from 8 hours in the standard NC10 models. Furthermore, the Special Edition is black, whereas the standard NC10 has either white or blue chassis. The product page on Amazon.com also says that the NC10-11PBK’s touch pad is larger than on other NC10 models.

The core components remained the same and include the 1024 x 600 display, Intel’s Atom N270 processor at 1.6GHz, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 160GB hard drive with Windows XP Home preloaded.

The Samsung NC10-11PBK Special Edition is priced at $469.

Microsoft Laptop Cooling Base

Microsoft has introduced the Laptop Cooling Base, the company’s first laptop stand.

“The stylish Notebook Cooling Base provides reliable cooling with a built-in fan and efficient cooling channel to prevent overheating. The base is easy to use with any laptop and is contoured to rest on both desks and users’ laps, providing a comfortable typing angle,” Microsoft says.

The stand is USB-powered and includes a cable management clip.

It will be available in July for an estimated retail price of $29.95.

6 Cell Battery HP

The extended 6-cell battery for the HP Mini 1000 netbook is now available for purchase.

The Lithium-Polymer battery (FZ332AA#ABB) is priced at $95.99, when sold separately.

HP’s Mini 1000, starting at $279.99, comes with the 3-cell stock battery. Upgrade to the 6-cell unit costs $40.00. Customers can also purchase the netbook with both batteries for additional $119.00.

HP Enviro Series

HP Enviro Series

New laptop batteries, based on the latest Boston Power’s Sonata technology, are available now as accessories for 18 existing Hewlett-Packard notebook models.

Sonata Li-ion cells in the HP Enviro Series batteries are claimed to deliver sustainable performance for three years, which is “three times longer than most other notebook computer batteries”. HP is providing a three-year warranty on the batteries. In addition, the batteries are Ecolabel-certified.

The battery – Enviro Series NH493AA#ABA – is compatible with the following notebooks: HP Pavilion dv4, dv5, dv6; HP HDX 16; HP G50, G60, G61, G70, G71; and Compaq Presario CQ40, CQ45, CQ50, CQ60, CQ61, CQ70, CQ71.

The Sonata batteries for HP laptops are priced at $119.99. Later this month, the product will be available as a point-of-sale option for consumers buying new HP notebooks at HP.com.

VIA has announced the Surfboard C855 Reference Design, a netbook motherboard that supports full HD video playback.

The chip makers says the VIA Surfboard C855, which includes a C7-M ULV processor and the Chrome9 integrated graphics, provides “flawless playback of high bit-rate 1080p HD video”. Along with hardware decoding of H.264, MPEG-2/4, VC-1 and WMV9 video standards, the netbook platform supports internal display resolutions of up to 1366 x 768 pixels and external display resolutions up to 1920 x 1440 pixels.

The surfboard C855 also incorporates 8-channel HD audio, as well as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and 3G connectivity.

According to a specifications sheet, it has one memory socket for up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM and support for 2.5″ and 1.8″ HDDs.

We have no info on availability of C855-based netbooks.

Samsung NC20

Samsung has recently unveiled the NC20, a netbook with a 12.1-inch display and VIA’s Nano processor.

Unlike the most of available netbooks, based on the Intel Atom technology, the Samsung NC20 uses the VIA Nano U2250 CPU (1.3GHz – 1.6GHz, 800MHz) and the VX800 chipset with the Chrome 9 integrated graphics. The netbook has 1GB of DDR2 RAM, up to 160GB of hard drive space, and a 6-cell battery.

Its widescreen display has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and a glossy coating, while its ‘normal’ notebook keyboard has full sized keys.

There are also a built-in 1.3MP web camera, stereo speakers, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet LAN, three USB ports, and a 3-in-1 media card reader.

The Samsung NC20 runs Windows XP Home operating system.

The netbook is available overseas for around $480. It’s expected to start selling in the US by the end of March.

Hewlett-Packard has launched the HP Pavilion dv6z notebook PC, featuring a 16-inch display and AMD’s processor technology.

Unlike the Intel-powered dv6t, the Pavilion dv6z uses the AMD Athlon or Turion dual core CPU. The laptop features the ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated graphics or Radeon HD 4530/4650 dedicated GPUs, depending on customer’s choice. It comes with up to 8GB of DDR2 memory, up to 500GB of hard drive space, and a DVD buerner or Blu-Ray combo optical drive.

The display has a resolution of 1366×768 and optional Infinity glass for a frameless look of the LCD panel.

Other features of the notebook that runs Windows Vista OS include a built-in web camera, Altec Lansing stereo speakers, HDMI output, Wireless-G or Wireless-N card, optional Bluetooth and optional 56k modem, an Ethernet LAN port, four USB ports, an ExpressCard slot, 5-in-1 media card reader, and a Firewire port on models with discrete graphics.

The HP dv6z weighs 6.34 pounds with a standard 6-cell battery and comes in two designs: Espresso Black and Moonlight White.

It’s available now for a starting price of $599.99 at the HP online store.
