MSI X-Slim Series X320

The MSI X-Slim X320, “the world’s lightest and slimmest 13-inch notebook”, is now available in the United States.

Newegg and Mwave sell the X320-037US model with the Intel Atom Z530 1.6GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, a 250GB HDD, a 4-cell battery and Windows Vista Home Premium OS. The 2.8-pound laptop, that measures only 6mm at its thinnest and 20mm at its widest point, is based on the Intel Menlow US15W chipset with the GMA 500 integrated graphics and doesn’t include an optical drive.

The 13″ 16:9 glare type display has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and uses LED backlight.

MSI’s X320 also sports a 1.3MP web camera, stereo speakers, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth, an Ethernet LAN port, three USB ports, a 2-in-1 media card reader, and a VGA output.

The laptop is priced at $599

New Netbook – HP Mini 110 XP

Hewlett-Packard’s recently announced netbook, the 10.1-inch HP Mini 110 XP is available for purchase starting today.

The Mini 110 XP runs Windows XP OS and comes with an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz or N280 1.66GHz processor, the GMA 950 integrated graphics, 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 160GB hard drive or up to 32GB of solid state drive storage, and a 3- or 6-cell battery. An optional Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator for 1080p video content is expected to be available in July.

The netbook’s 10.1″ LED backlight display has a resolution of 1024×576 pixels and anti-glare coating.

Other features include a built-in web camera, stereo speakers, a 92% of full-size keyboard, a wireless G card, an optional mobile broadband module, a LAN port, three USB ports, a 5-in-1 media card reader, and a VGA output.

The HP Mini 110 XP starts at 2.25 pounds and has the Black Swirl Imprint finish.

Its base price is $329 at the HP website.

Geforce G210m

NVIDIA unveiled today five new video cards for laptops – the mainstream GeForce G210M, the “Performance” GT 230M, GT 240M, and GTS 250M and the “High-Performance” GTS 260M.

These GPUs will fill in the gaps between the existing GTX280M, GTX260M, and GTS160M, the company says.

The GeForce G210M features 16 processing cores, 512MB of video memory and a 64-bit memory interface, whereas the GT 230M, GT 240M, GTS 250M, and GTS 260M have from 48 to 96 cores, 1GB of VRAM and a 128-bit memory interface.

Nvidia’s new notebook chips are based on a 40nm production process and support DirectX 10.1, SLI, CUDA, and PureVideo HD technologies. In addition, every card but the G210M supports PhysX.

Lenovo Thinkpad T400s

Lenovo has announced the ThinkPad T400s 14.1″ thin-and-light business laptop, measuring in at 0.83 inches at its thinnest point and starting at 3.91 pounds.

The T400s, “nearly 20 percent” lighter than its ThinkPad T400 predecessor, features the Intel Core 2 Duo SP9400 2.4GHz or SP9600 2.53GHz processor, GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, up to 250GB HDD or up to 128GB solid state drive, up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, and a DVD burner or Blu-ray optical drive.

The display resolution is 1440-by-900 pixels, according to a promotional video.

The notebook sports a new TinkPad keyboard and a 27% larger trackpad that supports multi-gesture input, a 2MP web camera, dual microphones, stereo speakers, optional Intel Turbo Memory for better system responsiveness, WiFi and Ethernet LAN, as well as optional WiMAX, mobile broadband, Bluetooth and ultrawideband connectivity. It’s interesting that the T400s supports up to two monitors via its Display Port and VGA connector. There are also an ExpressCard slot, a 5-in-1 media card reader, and three USB ports (one USB/eSATA combo).

The Lenovo ThinkPad T400s provides “nearly 6 hours” of operation on a single charge with its standard 6-cell battery.

It runs Windows XP or Vista Business OS and has a starting price of $1,599 at the Lenovo official online store.

HP 10″ Mini Netbook

HP Mini 5101 Netbook

Hewlett-Packard announced today the newly designed HP Mini 5101 10.1-inch netbook, featuring the Intel Atom N280 CPU at 1.66GHz, up to 320GB HDD at 7,200rpm or an 80GB solid state drive, Windows XP Home or SUSE Linux OS, and a 4-cell or 6-cell battery.

The LED backlight display has a resolution of 1024-by-600 or 1366-by-768 pixels. It’s managed by the Intel GMA 950 video chip.

The HP Mini 5101 also sports a keyboard that is 95 percent of a full-size QWERTY keyboard and that has keys raised from the surface, a 2MP web camera, stereo speakers and microphones, 802.11a/b/g/draft-n WiFi, a Gigabit LAN port, optional mobile broadband module, three USB ports, a 2-in-1 media card reader, and a VGA output.

The netbook starts at 2.6 pounds and features an anodized aluminum display enclosure with a black, brushed finish, while the lower case of the netbook is made of magnesium alloy.

The HP Mini 5101 is available now at HP and starts at $399.

Windows 7

Microsoft’s Windows 7 is available for pre-order at various retailers who offer instant savings for early orders of the upcoming operating system.

Windows 7, scheduled for release on October 22, is available for pre-order in three editions: Home Premium ($120 $50), Professional ($200 $100), and Ultimate ($220). The discounts are valid while supplies last. The prices are for Upgrade versions, aimed at users that already own a computer with Windows Vista OS. “Full” Home Premium, Pro, and Ultimate are priced at $200, $300, and $320.

According to reports, there’s also a free Windows-Vista-to-Windows-7 upgrade plan.

“Say you buy a computer with Vista Home Premium this weekend; you get a Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade on October 22, free. If you buy Vista Business, you’ll get Win 7 Professional, and if you buy Vista Ultimate, you’ll get Win 7 Ultimate” Gizmodo says adding that there’s no upgrade path for Vista Home Basic.

Both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 versions will ship in the same box.
