The Dell Streak 5-inch Android tablet with 3G cell phone functionality is now available for purchase in the US.
The Streak is sold for use on AT&T network only. It starts at $299.99 with 2-year AT&T contract activation or $549 without the contract.
Amazon has started selling the eMachines eME527-2537 15.6-inch laptop for only $279 after instant savings.
The ultra-affordable notebook features the Intel Celeron 900 2.2GHz single-core processor, GMA 4500M integrated graphics, 2GB of DDR3 RAM, a 160GB hard drive, DVD burner, 6-cell battery, display resolution of 1366 × 768 pixels, and Windows 7 Home Premium OS.
Regarding other specifications, the 6-pound eMachines eME527-2537 has 802.11n Wi-Fi, Ethernet LAN, a single speaker, two USB ports, a 5-in-1 media card raeder, and a VGA connector.
Amazon also offers free shipping on this eMachines laptop.
Lenovo has released the 15.6-inch IdeaPad Z565 affordable multimedia laptop.
Unlike the Intel-based Z560, the Lenovo IdeaPad Z565 features AMD’s processors. Available models in the U.S market have the Turion II P520 2.3GHz or N530 2.5GHz dual-core CPUs, ATI Radeon HD4200 integrated or Radeon HD5470 512MB discrete graphics, 4GB of DDR3 memory expandable to 8GB, 320GB of hard disk space, and a DVD burner.
The 15.6″ LED-backlit display has a resolution of 1366×768 pixels.
The IdeaPad Z565 includes a 0.3MP web camera, stereo speakers, mic, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet LAN, three USB ports, an Express Card slot, a 5-in-1 digital media reader, and HDMI and VGA outputs.
It weighs 5.7 pounds with its standard 6-cell battery which provides “up to 4.5 hours” of run time and comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS.
Prices of the Lenovo IdeaPad Z565 range from $619.99 to $698.80, depending on model.
Canonical’s Ubuntu Linux 10.10 OS, codenamed “Maverick Meerkat”, will support multitouch gestures.
“Our multi-touch work began in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, when we worked to get additional touch hardware supported in the Linux kernel, particularly the Dell XT2, HP tx2 tablets and the Lenovo T410s laptops. With that in place, and active development in X well under way, we reviewed our options for gesture recognition in Linux. The Maverick cycle has seen us produce several prototypes for gesture recognition software and the Ubuntu archives now include the results of that effort,” says Canonical.
The new feature is enabled by Ubuntu’s uTouch multi-touch and gesture framework.
Maverick Meerkat is currently in Alpha 3 stage. The final Ubuntu 10.10 release is expected in October.
The Samsung X125 11.6-inch AMD Ultrathin-powered ultraportable notebook is now available in the UK.
The 0.96-inch thin Samsung X125 weighs 3.33 pounds and features the AMD Athlon II Neo K125 1.7GHz single-core processor, ATI Radeon HD 4200 integrated graphics, 3GB of DDR3 memory, 320GB of hard disk space, and Windows 7 Home Premium OS.
Its LED-backlit glossy display has a resolution of 1366×768 pixels.
Samsung’s new ultraportable also includes an integrated web camera, stereo speakers, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Ethernet LAN, Bluetooth 3.0, three USB ports, a 4-in-1 media card reader, and HDMI and VGA outputs.
The Samsung X125 is available via Amazon U.K. and LaptopsDirect.co.uk for about £435 ($680). We have no info on its availability in the U.S.
Velocity Micro’s Cruz Reader e-book reader and multitouch-enabled Cruz Tablet are now available for pre-order.
The Android OS-based 7-inch Reader and Tablet are priced at 199.99 and $299.99 respectively and will start shipping in late September, according to Velocity Micro.
The company will also release the $149.99 Cruz Storypad e-reader for kids.
Asustek has published user manuals of the upcoming Asus Eee PC Lamborghini VX6 ultraportable laptop.
According to the manuals, the Eee PC VX6 features a 12.1″ 1366×768 display, the dual-core Intel Atom D525 1.83GHz processor, NVIDIA ION 2 graphics, and Windows 7 Home Premium OS.
The Lamborghini-inspired and branded notebook has VGA and HDMI outputs, three USB ports, an SD card slot, and a multitouch touchpad.
There is no word on release date and pricing.
MSI has announced the new laptop from their entertainment-oriented F Series – the 15.6-inch FX610.
The FX610 features the AMD Phenom II triple-core processor, ATI Radeon HD 5470 1GB dedicated graphics, up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, a 500, 640 or 720GB hard drive, a DVD writer, Windows 7 Home Premium OS, 1366×768 display, and a “unique raised totem seal coating.”
MSI’s new multimedia laptop also includes a web camera, two speakers with THX TruStudio Pro surround sound technology, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet LAN, Bluetooth, two USB ports, an eSATA/USB combo port, a 5-in-1 card reader, and HDMI and VGA outputs.
The MSI FX610 weighs 5.29 pounds with its standard 6-cell battery.
There is no word on pricing and availability.
